CHONG Vun Jien from Miri emerged the Champion of the Carlsberg Diamond Idol 2011 on Saturday night and walked away with RM8,000 cash plus a trophy after winning over the judges with his performance in front of a crowd at IceBar Club at 1Borneo.

He emerged champion out of a total of 12 finalists were selected from the Preliminary Rounds held in Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Sandakan and, Tawau.

“It’s like a dream come true, I thought I would be eliminated during the Preliminary Rounds at Miri,” said Chong.

He added that hopefully he will be able to perform on stage throughout Malaysia.

All the winners of Carlsberg Diamond Idol 2011 were Champion: Chong Vui Jien from Miri, 1st Runner Up: Jesper Mimoi from Kuching, 2nd Runner Up: Agnesia Jame from Kota Kinabalu ,3rd Runner Up: Lu Siau Fung from Kota Kinabalu and 4th Runner Up: Chan Sit Lan from Miri while Special Award (Most Voted Contestants) was Agnesia Jame from Kota Kinabalu.

Deputy Managing Director of Carlsberg Malaysia, Datuk Chin Voon Long stated that the overall feedback received for Carlsberg Diamond Idol 2011 was very good with an overwhelming response from the people in East Malaysia,

“I didn’t expect that the response would be that good until we found out the total number of participants that actually joined the singing competition on the Preliminary Rounds.

“Hopefully there will be another round of Carlsberg Diamond Idol next year to provide another chance for those who didn’t make it to the Grand Finale this year”, said Datuk Chin.

Vic Teo, 2nd Runner up of Malaysian Idol Season 1 and Marsha, 3rd Runner up of Akademi Fantasia Season 3 were the main judges along with Mr. Tan Guan Hock , Hitz.fm Kota Kinabalu announcer Cassie & My fm Kota Kinabalu announcer Gin.

Vic Teo and Marsha also performed during the Grand Finale.

Sagajuta Creatives & Communications Sdn Bhd (SCC) is the Event Manager for the very successful inaugural Carlsberg Diamond Idol 2011.

SCC General Manager, Raymond Fang who was present during the Grand Finale stated that he is looking forward to partner with Carlsberg Malaysia for another Carlsberg Diamond Idol in 2012.

“Now that we have created great awareness for this brand new event, I hope the number of participants will increase next year and we will definitely make it into another mega event for Sabah & Sarawak,” said Raymond.
